GRADES K-5 6:45- 8:20 AM and 3:00-5:30 PM Epping Elementary School
For over twenty years, the Epping Recreation Department has operated a variety of successful programs for Epping students. We currently run year-round programs during out-of-school hours for Epping elementary and middle-school youth. We provide a safe, nurturing place for children to attend quality programming beyond the schools’ hours of operation. We strive to help youth reach their full potential by allowing them to explore their physical, social and intellectual interests in a safe and fun setting. The culture of our programs emphasizes quality relationships and a healthy respect for individuality. We provide enough structure to keep everyone safe, but we also offer an open atmosphere that allows children to explore their interests in groups or on their own.
The department offers before-school and after-school programs, school vacation camps and an extended summer vacation program. Our staff includes a director who has been with the program for over five years, four licensed teachers and four college students who serve as Senior Counselors, three high school students who serve as Junior Counselors, and two PlusTime NH AmeriCorps VISTA members, one who holds a K-8 teaching certification and the other a bachelors in child advocacy. The department is overseen by a board of volunteer commissioners who meet once a month to review and discuss relevant issues. The Recreation Commission, along with the Board of Selectmen, supervises the program’s budget.
We offer school-age programming 245 days a year for an average of 5 hours per day on school days and 10 hours on no-school days. Over each of the last four years, enrollment has increased in all of our programs, as we have expanded both the variety of our activities and the age groups we serve. During the school year and summer we have a total of over 150 children enrolled, with an average of 50 children attending daily.
The before school program operates on normal school days at the Epping Elementary School is for youth in grades K-5, the program is from 6:45 A.M. to 8:20 A.M. At the program the youth are able to finish homework, work on arts and crafts projects, play games in the gym and use the playground. The youth are able to eat breakfast with the school breakfast program.
The after school program operate on normal school days at both Epping Elementary School (grades K-4) and Watson Community Center (grades 5-8). The program operates from school dismissal until 5:30 P.M.
